Spectre! - Schecter Omen-7
£255.00
Meet Spectre the Schecter!
Some guitars politely wait to be noticed. Others seem to appear from nowhere and quietly command the room the moment they’re plugged in. Spectre belongs firmly in the second camp.
Schecter Omen-7
Finished in an immaculate gloss white with contrasting black hardware and elegant gothic vine inlays climbing the rosewood fretboard, Spectre somehow manages to look both refined and downright intimidating. Truth be told, there wasn’t a great deal for Sarah to do aesthetically this time around. She’s been exceptionally well looked after, still wearing the protective plastic on her machine heads after all these years! That didn’t stop her receiving the full Stray Chord spa treatment though, with a careful clean and final polish to make that gloss white finish absolutely gleam.
Built around Schecter’s lightweight basswood body, Spectre is remarkably comfortable for a seven-string. The extra string naturally widens the neck slightly, but the slim maple neck profile keeps everything feeling familiar, while the smooth rosewood fretboard makes moving around all 24 extra-jumbo frets feel effortless. Whether you’re spending hours practising at home or standing through an entire gig, she’s one of those guitars that simply disappears in your hands.
The fixed string-through hardtail bridge is exactly what many extended-range players look for. It keeps tuning reassuringly stable, improves sustain and happily copes with lower tunings without the compromises that can sometimes come with floating tremolo systems. From crushing modern metal to progressive rock, atmospheric cleans and even surprisingly warm blues-inspired passages, Spectre covers far more ground than her aggressive appearance might suggest.
Her pair of Schecter Diamond Plus humbuckers deliver plenty of output without sacrificing clarity. Low B riffs remain tight and articulate, chords retain excellent note separation and the bridge pickup has enough bite for everything from classic heavy metal to modern djent. Flick over to the neck pickup and she produces smooth, full-bodied cleans and singing lead tones that make the most of the guitar’s impressive sustain.
Like every Stray that arrives at our workshop, Spectre has received far more than a quick once-over. Jordan has levelled, crowned and polished every fret, rounded the fret ends, rolled the fretboard edges and completed a full professional setup, ensuring every note rings cleanly across the entire neck. The rosewood fretboard has been carefully cleaned and conditioned, the electronics checked throughout and a fresh set of strings fitted, leaving her playing every bit as well as she looks.
Schecter have built their reputation on producing instruments that consistently outperform their price tag, and the Omen Series is one of the finest examples. Built in Indonesia to an impressively high standard, Spectre combines superb craftsmanship with thoughtful design touches like Schecter’s Ultra Access neck joint, making those highest frets feel every bit as accessible as the first.
If you’ve been considering stepping into the world of seven strings, or simply want an incredibly well-built workhorse capable of handling almost anything you throw at it, Spectre is waiting.
This stray is ready to haunt a new stage.
