Domino! - Danelectro ’56 Baritone Reissue – Korean-Made Limo Black
Korean-Made Danelectro ’56 Baritone Reissue in Limo Black
Meet Domino, a Korean-built Danelectro ’56 Baritone Reissue finished in Limo Black, combining classic 1950s styling with an extended 29.75-inch scale, lightweight semi-hollow construction and Danelectro's unmistakable lipstick single-coil pickups.
Domino came to The Stray Chord after being regularly played and well loved by her previous owner, who eventually moved on to other guitars.
Following careful rehabilitation and a complete professional baritone setup, Domino was successfully rehomed for £355.
About Domino
The Danelectro ’56 Baritone Reissue is an unusual instrument even by Danelectro standards.
Rather than simply extending the range of a conventional solid-body electric, Danelectro combines its long baritone scale with the lightweight, resonant construction and distinctive electronics that have defined the brand for decades.
Domino's 29.75-inch scale length allows her to operate comfortably at lower pitches than a conventional guitar while retaining clarity and string definition.
The result is a deep, resonant voice that occupies the territory between a conventional electric guitar and bass without simply behaving like either.
Her lightweight semi-hollow construction uses Masonite, an important part of the characteristic Danelectro formula. Even acoustically, the instrument has a lively, resonant quality quite unlike a conventional solid-body guitar.
Finished in Limo Black, Domino pairs that unconventional construction with wonderfully restrained 1950s styling.
Lipstick pickups & baritone sound
Central to the Danelectro sound is a pair of distinctive lipstick single-coil pickups.
These provide the bright attack, chime and slightly woody character for which vintage-style Danelectros have become famous.
On a baritone instrument, those characteristics become particularly useful. The extended low register remains articulate rather than simply becoming darker and heavier, allowing Domino to produce enormous low notes while retaining definition.
Controls are refreshingly straightforward, with a master volume, master tone and three-way pickup selector.
The result lends itself beautifully to surf, country, blues, indie, alternative, post-rock and cinematic playing, as well as any guitarist simply looking for an instrument that encourages a completely different approach to writing.
Restoration & setup
Unlike many Strays, Domino arrived as a well-used and well-loved instrument rather than a major restoration project.
Her rehabilitation therefore focused on preserving her character while ensuring the extended-scale setup performed properly.
During her time at The Stray Chord she received:
- Complete professional baritone setup
- Neck relief carefully adjusted
- Action optimised across the extended scale
- Full intonation
- Hardtail bridge checked and adjusted
- Rosewood fingerboard thoroughly cleaned
- Fingerboard conditioned and rehydrated
- All 24 frets inspected
- Electronics thoroughly checked
- Lipstick pickups inspected and tested
- Pickup operation and balance checked
- Master volume and tone checked
- Three-way selector tested
- Hardware thoroughly inspected
- Body carefully cleaned
- Limo Black finish meticulously polished
- Final electronics and playability inspection
Particular attention was paid to achieving a comfortable setup across the longer 29.75-inch scale while retaining the tension and articulation expected from a baritone.
The result was a resonant, stable and inspiring instrument ready for an entirely new chapter.

Domino's adoption
🖤 REHOMED 🖤
Some guitars are built to fit in.
Domino wasn't.
After a life of regular playing with her previous owner, she passed through The Stray Chord workshop for some well-earned rehabilitation before finding somebody new to explore the depths of that extraordinary baritone voice.
Domino has now found her forever home and is no longer available for adoption.
Her page remains permanently in The Stray Chord Rehomed Archive, documenting her rehabilitation and providing a reference for players researching the Korean-made Danelectro ’56 Baritone Reissue.
She doesn't sound like a Strat.
She doesn't sound like a Les Paul.
She sounds like a Danelectro.
And that's precisely the point.
