Meet Kassie, an Aria Pro II Jet-2, a distinctive 24-fret offset electric guitar equipped with twin Amp-90 Alnico P90-style pickups.

Kassie arrived at The Stray Chord after her previous owner became frustrated with the factory finish and setup shortly after buying her. Sharp fretwork, a dry fingerboard, hazy bodywork and a less-than-ideal setup meant a fundamentally interesting guitar wasn't living up to its potential.

Following extensive fretwork, finish correction and a complete professional setup, Kassie was successfully rehomed for £110.

About Kassie

Designed by Japanese guitar company Aria Pro II, the Jet-2 takes a deliberately unconventional approach to the affordable offset electric guitar.

A poplar body is paired with a maple neck and rosewood fingerboard carrying an unusually generous 24 frets, while a chamfered neck joint helps provide comfortable access to the upper register.

The electronics are refreshingly straightforward. Two Aria Amp-90 Alnico pickups provide the character and immediacy associated with P90-style designs, controlled by a three-way pickup selector, master volume and master tone.

The bridge pickup delivers plenty of attack, brightness and definition, while the neck position provides fuller mids and lows. Add some overdrive and the Jet-2's combination of offset construction and P90-style pickups makes it particularly well suited to indie, alternative, punk and rock.

Kassie's deep Black finish complements the unusual Jet body shape, transforming what could easily have disappeared into a sea of conventional budget guitars into something considerably more distinctive.

Restoration & setup

The underlying guitar was fundamentally sound, but Kassie's factory finishing and setup left considerable room for improvement.

During her rehabilitation at The Stray Chord she received:

• Complete fret dressing across all 24 frets
• Frets fully levelled, crowned and polished
• Sharp fret ends dressed and rounded
• Fingerboard edges carefully rolled
• Rosewood fingerboard thoroughly cleaned and conditioned
• Neck relief adjusted
• Bridge adjusted to eliminate unwanted buzz
• Action professionally set
• Full intonation
• Amp-90 pickup heights individually balanced
• Controls and electronics cleaned and serviced
• Hazy body finish corrected and polished
• Body buffed to a deep gloss
• Protective wax finish applied
• Final professional setup and playability check

The result was a dramatically smoother-playing Jet-2 with comfortable fretwork, low buzz-free action and a deep, reflective Black finish.
